// SUBMISSIONS FOR ISSUE SEVEN NOW CLOSED //

SOBER. sees the interdisciplinary as an ever-evolving concept. We like work that is indiscernible and multiplicitous in nature. We like work that provides possibilities, not answers. We don’t aim to define what interdisciplinary is, but rather look to learn from the artists we feature and include their work as contributions to an ongoing conversation of what the interdisciplinary might be, and can be. In short, the work within SOBER. magazine does not stand alone in practice or genre, rather it attempts to defy category.

We accept work that embodies multiple modes of work such as: sculpture, illustration, photography, film, gifs, graphic design, drawing, fine art, poetry, short prose, flash fiction, non-fiction, essays, sound poetry, music, performance art, and anything else that you can think of.

SUBMISSIONS ARE CURRENTLY CLOSED.
We have extended our deadline, and will update this page and socials for when we close.
Any submissions submitted after the closing date will not be considered, sorry! We never have a theme, so go wild.

// Please read the following submission instructions carefully. //
// Include all of the information we require in your submission stated below, and if you have any questions, hit us up via email. //

  • Please submit no more than 3 collections of work. If your work is too large to be sent as attachment, please send it to us via WeTransfer along with your bio and artist statement. We accept jpegs, word documents, PDFs and mp3s. If you're submitting videos or films to us, please send them as a link from either Youtube or Vimeo.

  • Please do not submit anything to us via Dropbox or OneDrive.

  • Send visual art in the highest possible resolution.

  • Please put your name, the title of the piece, and place SOBER. SUBMISSION in your email subject, like so: YOUR NAME // TITLE OF PIECE // SOBER. SUBMISSION

  • Please also send a short biography (no more than 100 words) along with your work as a Word File/PDF or in the body of the email this can include places you've previously been published in, where you're from, what you do. Please also send us an artist statement (no more than 200 words) explaining the concept of your work either as a Word File/PDF or in the body of the email.

  • Please, PLEASE with a cherry on top, include any links to your website or social media in your bio so that we can link our viewers to you elsewhere. This one’s very important to us.

  • You are also welcome to include an artist statement about the work you are submitting if you would like. Otherwise, we might place our own interpretations in.

  • Simultaneous submissions are considered, but you MUST notify us if your work is accepted elsewhere first.

  • Send all submissions to soberartmagazine@gmail.com

We do not pay contributors, as we’re a not-for-profit, voluntary zine that we run out of our own pockets, and so we don’t pay ourselves for editing SOBER.
We don’t foresee this changing in future, and if that puts you off, no shade, we understand.

We reserve first publication rights for 30 days after issue publication. This means that your work is still yours (copyright always remains with you), but you can't have it reprinted anywhere else until those 30 days have passed. After that, you are free to submit the same work elsewhere, but please acknowledge us if you do reprint your art in another magazine or platform (other to your own website).

We look forward to checking your work out.
