'women in horror'
Rebecca Amberley is a Fine Art graduate based in the West Midlands, UK. As an interdisciplinary artist, she works with a mixture of all mediums but primarily works within photography, video, installation and print-making art mediums. The core of her practice explores visual representations of women and their identities in western society. Particularly, she focuses on the centrality of the male gaze in media and the ways she is able to deconstruct its stereotypes. She does this through use of appropriation, repetition and de-familiarisation in order to demonstrate areas of the gaze and alter how those gazed representations are perceived.
Abberley's 'Women in Horror' uses films presented as an internal component to an installation on representations of women in horror films and voyeurism.
